About the Blog

The world has always been an evolving place, but in the last few decades these changes have rapidly increased and resulted in dramatically different weather patterns, landscapes, ecosystems, health issues, and much more. Unfortunately, most of this change is negative, and it's coming at the hand of humanity. Many would argue climate change is the biggest problem facing us today. But, few are making the necessary changes to address the problem and slow it down. Perhaps this is due to a persisting lack of education on how individuals can become involved and the small and big things they can do to make a difference.

This blog will be a place to explore the potential influence people can have and how they can achieve it. It will aim to give people the resources to join organizations and attend events, but also the information to make changes in their day to day lives. Furthermore, we will include interviews of individuals who have been successful in making changes and even devoting their lives to making a difference for the environment and mitigating climate change. Everyone leads a busy life with different commitments and responsibilities. Perhaps signing a petition for an initiative that takes action is the most some people can do. Perhaps others can install solar panels, or give up beef, or organize an event. We understand that everyone does not have the same capability and availability. But, if we all make one change, that's a lot of changes when combined. And every change counts.

Providing Tools for Grassroots Activism

The Cascadia Climate Action Blog Team:

This collaborative grassroots effort has been made possible through the hard work of current and former volunteers.  The blog itself was started by an intern that currently works for the organization. The founder of Cascade Climate Action, as well as the other current intern provide input and participate in the management of the blog as well.

She also has a passion for writing, photography, art, and spending time outside camping, hiking, climbing, and diving. Currently she works for Columbia Sportswear, but is unsure what she would like to do for a career in the future. She has already traveled a bit in South America and Africa, but hopes her work will take her many more places.

A life long advocate for protecting the Earth’s environment, Mary works to support others to take climate action in a way that fits their interests, values, and skills. With graduate work in environmental law and policy, her careers have included federal air policy, grant management, and regulatory implementation.  After joining with friends in 2012 to found the community grassroots climate group to work collaboratively on climate change, she began an initiative that became Cascadia Climate Action.   She enjoys good conversations on most any topic, making connections with climate activists, aspiring musicians, artists and clear thinkers.  When she is not working to "save the planet," she is known to take art classes, hike trails, throw garden parties, and join friends at music venues.
